Moving is Complete-What You should Unpack First

The relief is there. The last package has been shipped by your moving company, completed a final walk, and left you and your family to enjoy your new home. Oh! The pressure. Although the physical transfer is complete, you now have to unpack hundreds of boxes. But where are you going to start?

Do a walk through your new home before you start unpacking to make sure it’s cleaned and ready for your belongings? Cleaning before you have furniture in place is much simpler. Then set up your major appliances and furniture. Again, organizing each room is easier if there are major features in place before you start unpacking boxes.

Kid’s Stuffs

Your children will be excited and exhausted immediately after your transfer. They may even be frustrated if they step away from their friends and comfort zone. Unpacking some of their favourite toys, books, or games can help keep them busy and make them remember back.

Pets ‘ things

Your pets may be exploratory and probably confused, similar to your children. Through setting up a spot for their food and water dishes and taking out some of their favourite toys, you can make them feel more at home.

You’ll likely be tired when your moving day comes to an end. And the best medicine is going to be the rest of a good night. When you’re ready to turn in, getting your bed ready to use will save you heartbeat. As with other rooms, set up your key furniture (read: your bed) in the desired location to unpack your bedroom. Then unpack and make your bed sheets, pillows and blankets. Mind to hang up your curtains in order to have some privacy.

You may want to refresh yourself from the tiredness of traveling after your transfer. You need easy access to certain bathroom items such as toilet paper, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and medication, even if you feel refreshed. Unpacking all your personal care items and toiletries will allow you to feel more at home before the rest of your home is even unpacked.

Food is a crucial part of life, so your kitchen will hover close to the top of your essential unpacking list. Consider running a grocery store to stock your refrigerator and pantry with food worth at least a few days. First of all, unpack your plates, silverware, and glasses that are probably your favourite items in the kitchen.
