In this blog you will find all needed information about removal companies, furniture deliveries, and much more...
When packing items, it’s easy to forget some of the simple things that can make a big difference to the difficult process of getting everything boxed up and ready to go. Tips and tricks that have been learn by those who have completed the process quite a few times can come in incredibly handy when you set out to complete the task yourself. With packing seemingly simple but complicated by the need to identify the contents of boxes separately, the trick is to use common sense and a bit of ingenuity to get the best results.
In advance, clean your furniture and furnishings before you move. You want them to be dirt and dust free so that you don’t take it with you! If you don’t, then you’re going to end up with unnecessary extra dirt and grime in their new surroundings. When taking down paintings and artwork or picture frames (with personally significant photographs for example), take them down carefully from your walls and also dust them down, to ensure dust isn’t brought with them either. Put them aside.
Ensure that your furniture and larger furnishings are in tip top condition before the move; you don’t want to take broken or damaged furniture with you. If you do take the risk, then don’t expect for them to arrive in the same state that they left in! So make sure you get anything broken fixed before the move. If you can’t, then be sure to use painter’s tape to fix it up so that the removal service know it’s broken. This way, the removal team can be more careful in carrying the furniture to and from the truck and when storing it inside for travel.
Dividing up your goods is a good way to speed up the boxing up and packing of your belongings that you want to take with you. You can divide them up by “keep”, “give away” and “rubbish”. Giving items to charity can be an option for freeing up space if there are things you are happy to be rid of and want to ‘give to a new home’. Ring early or contact the charity you intend to donate them to, to see if the items can be picked up in due time. Otherwise ensure you take time out to go and deliver them, with time to spare, so that you can focus on other priorities. Alternatively there are clothing banks and other donation policies to make use of.
Leave yourself enough time to do all of the packing. You can pretty much guarantee that in practice packing everything up will take twice as long as you expect or hope it to! So plan ahead and give yourself enough time and space to get it done as best you can so you are well prepared for any possible issues cropping up.
Remember to clean and wash your clothes before packing them up. They could be in storage for quite some time all boxed up. Dirt encrusted clothes is a bad idea, as food particles can break up fabrics over time. So it’s best to give them a good clean beforehand.
Finally, make sure that you don’t ever pack essentials that you will need and can’t do without. Medication, documents you need immediate access to, and a phone charger are all things you can’t live without during the move. You might wish to pile these up in a distinctly separate pile of “items for instant access”, otherwise you’ll be pretty miffed when your battery runs out and you can’t find its charger amongst lots of boxes!
