Moving Home – Prepare to Pack, Don’t Just Go Ahead and Do It

No one likes packing; that is simply a fact. When it comes to moving house, we tend to put it off as long as possible until we simply have no choice but to get it done. For those of us more prepared for the job, we still like to get it done as quickly as possible and it is only for a rare few that the idea of using this as an exercise in de-cluttering makes itself apparent. But those people are on the right track, because despite how important the packing is, the pre-pack is equally so.

You are moving to a new home, a fresh set of walls, with a chance to start anew. So why drag all of the contents of a place where you may have lived fmoving home prepare to pack 1or many years with you? Many websites will tell you to start the packing as early as possible, but we think what you really should be starting as soon as possible is the packing planning.
What do we mean by planning to pack? Well put quite simply, a good old clear out, from top to bottom. Don’t just chuck the contents of those garage shelves in a large box and put that on a shelf in your new garage never to be touched again. Sort through it and be honest with yourself about what you actually need and what can be committed to memory. Everything that you don’t need can either be put up for sale via a car boot, online auction sites or a good old-fashioned advert in the local paper, donated to charity, recycled or just disposed of. Once you have finished one room most people are surprised just how much they manage to free themselves of, and just how good they feel once they have done it. De-cluttering really is good for the mind.
Don’t just stop at one room. If you have been in your house for quite some time the chances are every single room is going to be full of items that just aren’t really necessary. Just ask yourself the question, does it mean something to me? If not, does it serve a useful purpose and have I used it within the last couple of years? If the answer to all three of these questions is no then nine times out of ten it is fit to go. Obviously it isn’t always that simple and no one is asking you to be ruthless, but being honest with yourself is a good place to start.
What will all this clearing out achieve? Quite a lot, so much so we think you will be surprised. Firstly, it will save you packing time because there will be considerably less to pack. It will save you money, not only because you don’t need to purchase as many packing materials but because there will be less to move and so your professional costs House removals company will be less. You may even make some money putting certain items up for sale, giving you some pocket money to put towards putting a personal touch on your new abode. Unpacking will also be quicker (less stuff) and your new home will only contain the items that you want in it, rather than the collection of things you have amassed over the years, giving you a real peace of mind and sense of satisfaction and order. So why not start preparing to pack today!
